X-Country-Factor: John and Edward style PDF Print E-mail

I don't know about your house but in my place Saturday and Sunday nights the women rule and TV is totally out of bounds meaning I'm forced to sit through one warbling act after another.  John and Edward seem to have taken over the mantle of Irish music from Dustin the Turkey and are good fun to watch in a cringe-like way though.  Here is a picture of them back home running hard for their club, DSD:

Hit me baby one more time!

Maybe I'm biased but I think more of them now!!  More pics over on the DSD site. They are not too shabby either - a bit more research shows that John actually took bronze in this years 1500m U19 nationals in Nenagh!!  Click read more to see more on their track exploits!

The weather was ideal, but there is never anything easy about a marathon..  I'll leave the full report to Tony, Peter or one of the others that did the event but here are a few pictures I dug up of our athletes in action:

The boys are back in town
The Sub-3 Amigos

Craughwell were led home on the day in an incredible run by Justin Niland of 2:57:06.  This was a simply amazing debut marathon run given the amount of training that Justin has been doing whilst struggling with injuries.  He must be one tough customer.  Justin was closely tailed by Peter and Johnny.  Click read more for more pictures!.

All eyes on Dublin! PDF Print E-mail

You can run races week in and week out, but racing a marathon is really something special - I'd say you're likely to remember each one for the rest of your lives.  The very best of luck to all the Craughwell AC athletes that are running the marathon on Monday morning.

The weather outside is brutal today, but don't be scared - I checked all the weather and surfing websites and Monday is going to have the most ideal conditions I have ever seen for a Dublin marathon.  Not too hot and not too cold, and the best bit.. zero wind.  So off you go and be sure to enjoy every mile.  There will be friends and clubmates rooting for you all the way along the course and of course sitting at home waiting for the texts to arrive.

Craughwell 10 - should we move it? PDF Print E-mail

Hey folks - as you probably know we have finally decided to hold "proper" club race for next year.  The distance will be a 10-miler - just for a change.  The race calendar is pretty packed but we thought we had found a suitable date.  We had been planning on 21st of March  - i.e. the Sunday after Paddy's day.

However.. there's a slight problem - Ballycotton 10 which is one of the best races in the country has just now rescheduled it's race from early March to the 21st to avoid a clash with the national XC.   So it leaves us with a bit of a conundrum - do we try to find another slot..?  Do we go ahead because, hey Cork is a long way away and relatively few Galway runners go there (but those that do, including myself, love it).  Also BallyC sells out in like minutes so we wouldn't be taking away any of their numbers.

Can you log a vote int he poll on the left - one vote only please, or just log a comment at the end of this article to let us know your opinions.

The fixtures we know about are below - if you think we should move it could you indicate when might be a good date.

Announcing the 2009 Fields of Athenry 10km

It's that of the year again, when we at Athenry AC start gearing up for our annual 10km race. This race has grown in popularity over the years, as a mini running boom continues in the West of Ireland. We do our best to provide a top-quality race, that has something for all levels from International athletes to people taking on their first 10km race.

Online entry is available here.

Limited Entries

This year we have taken the decision to cap the entries at 1000 participants to ensure a safe, well-run race. This unfortunately means that on-the-day entries seem very unlikely. We'll try to keep you updated on www.athenryac.com as to how many entries we have to date, but you have been warned...

Timing Chip

With the growth of entries in the race, certain tasks become more difficult. This year we have decided to engage the services of Red Tag timing to provide full chip timing. On the morning of the event, as well as you race number, you'll get a electronic chip to attach your shoe to record your time - Just don't run off after the race with it!

The Hat!

Ah yes, the colour of the hat... Forget Lisbon - this is the decision that counts. Our now traditional race souvenir, a woolly hat, is coveted by runners up and down the country in the depths of winter [and indeed much of the summer too.] You'll be wearing this hat with pride for a number of years, so it may as well match your wardrobe.
