The evenings are drawing in, the kids are going back to school - time for resumption of the Craughwell AC circuit training. The 12 week program will be resuming on Monday 21st of September 2009 and will take us right through to Christmas.
The Circuit training sessions are a fun and social way to achieve a good level of general fitness and the Craughwell AC sessions have been very popular over the years. See you there! If you've already paid your Craughwell AC fit4life membership for the full year, the circuits are already included in that. If you've just paid the basic club membership fee or if you are a member of a different athletic club, its €45 to do the 12-week circuit program. If not a member of an athletic club, you need to join one in order to do the circuits.

In line with the new IAAF coaching guidelines, we're going to confiscate all members mobile phones for 3 weeks to help improve performance!!! Tony Nevin will collect them from all the fit4life members next Thursday and I will collect them from the juvenile club . Check out the benefit below! http://www.iaaf.org/GLE09/news/newsid=54129.html "Various World champions from Berlin have revealed the critical factors in their success but only Bahrain's 1500m champion Youssef Saad Kamel has said that his victory was down to having his mobile telephone confiscated.
Like a naughty schoolboy caught talking too often in class, Kamel's coach took the 26-year-old's link with the outside world away to get him to concentrate on training at a crucial period in the season."

Olive Homecoming - Sunday 1:00PM Local hero (or is it heroine?) Olive Loughnane will be coming home to Loughrea on Sunday at 1:00 PM. Olive was our top performer in the World Championships in Berlin with a stunning Silver in an incredibly gritty performance. With this she joined an elite group of 4 who have come home from the world athletics championships with "metal" around their neck. A few of us from the club were over in Berlin for the championships and though unfortunately we didn't get to see Olive there was a huge buzz around the whole Ireland team and supporters following her performance. In fact it was not just the Irish supporters - I met this wild Italian guy pictured below on the tube train in Berlin and I think he was going for the world record in autograph hunting. When I said I was from Ireland his first words were "Ooohlive Locknane" and he proceeded to pull out a very valuable hat which had both her autograph and Usain Bolt's! Watch out for that hat on ebay!
You too can make money on ebay! Get yourself to Loughrea on Sunday at 1:00PM to welcome home a genuine athletics hero! Loughrea 5mile Road Race - 25-27th Sept In other Loughrea news - one of the most hotly anticipated races of the year is on soon in Loughrea and it also features another seminar the night before, making it into a full athletics weekend. Last years event was the finest road race event in Ireland in my opinion so if you do only one race in the rest of the yeat make it that one! Full details here .

| This is a brief or maybe not so brief account of a truely fantastic trip to the Athletics World Championships in Berlin last week. We spent 2 days at the championships - Wednesday and Thursday. It was a fantastic experience and I’d highly recommend a trip to a major championship to any of our senior and juvenile athletes interested in the sport. This level of competition is special and the atmosphere is electric. The European Championships are on in Barcelona in race week next year (end July). Check it out at http://www.bcn2010.org/. My reading of the ticket situation is that you can get a reasonably good ticket for €120 for the full 6 days in zone C. Not bad compared to Berlin prices where we paid more than that for 2 days. So you could buy a couple of tickets, take the family to Barcelona for a week and different family members go to the athletics each day! Anyway, here's the low-down on Berlin. |
